Program Description:
This year’s ACPEN Annual Tax Update will provide experienced tax practitioners and advisors in public accounting and private industry with an update on current federal tax developments occurring within the past 12 to 18 months.
The primary emphasis of the course will be on newly enacted tax legislation impacting individuals, C & S corporations, partnerships, LLCs and LLPs. Also included will be recent court cases, IRS regulations, private letter rulings, and revenue procedures. The panel will address these, including:
John M. Bovard, CPA, has practiced public accounting since 1985, where he served with both the tax and audit departments of a three local CPA firms in Dallas. In 1994, he was a founding partner in the firm of Smith, Jackson, Boyer & Bovard, PLLC, in Dallas, Texas. His expertise includes tax planning and tax return preparation for individuals and businesses, IRS audits and appeals, small business consulting, and estate tax planning. He is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of CPA’s. He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a BBA in accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas and is a member of the AICPA, the Texas Society of CPAs and the Dallas Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs.
Linda Bradley McKee, CPA, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, College of Charleston, Charleston, SC
Linda Bradley McKee, PhD, CPA is an Associate Professor in the Accounting and Legal Studies department at the College of Charleston and has more than fourteen years experience in public accounting with local and national CPA firms. She brings a unique background of years teaching and real life experiences in public accounting to the classroom. Linda has published numerous articles and is a member of the Texas Society of CPAs, the South Carolina Association of CPAs, the American Taxation Association and the Charleston (SC) Estate Planning Council. She is the primary author of Garverick McCoy’s Estate and Wealth Planning for the 21st Century. She earned a Master of Science in Accounting (Emphasis in Tax) from Texas Tech University in 1977 and a Ph.D. in Accounting (Emphasis in Tax) from the University of North Texas in 1993. Linda has been a frequent part of ACPEN’s Annual Tax Updates.
Roger Lusby, CPA
Roger Lusby, CPA, is in charge of coordinating tax services for Frazier & Deeter, LLC clientele in Atlanta, Georgia. His responsibilities include a review of a variety of individual, estate and corporate tax returns and assisting clients in tax planning, financial planning, executive compensation and stock option planning, estate and succession planning, and international tax planning for the Firm’s clients primarily in the real estate, hospitality and service industries.
Prior to joining the Firm, Roger was a tax supervisor with an international accounting firm. He has served in numerous leadership positions for many professional organizations including the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Certified Management Accountants, American Association of Individual Investors, International Association of Financial Planners, Atlanta Tax Forum, and the Atlanta Estate Planning Council. Roger has presented numerous highly-rated training courses and seminars as an adjunct faculty member and CPE Speaker on a variety of topics including estate, stock option, and S corporation planning and has published many articles on these and other topics. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from Berry College, Mt. Berry, Georgia in 1979, his Master of Taxation degree from Georgia State University in 1983, and has earned the Accredited Estate Planner Designation.
Ronnie C. McClure, PhD, CPA
Ronnie C. McClure, CPA, PhD has worked in the individual, family, corporate, partnership, and non-profit sectors of tax law for the past thirty-three years. He specializes in family, estate, and charitable gift financial and tax planning. He is a leading family consultant currently in private practice in Lewisville, Texas, and has recently founded SeekingNorth, LLC, to combine his rich technical background with his skills as a mediator and family counselor to provide relationship-based trans-generational wealth transfer consultation to high net worth families. He has taught federal taxation at the university graduate school level and conducted hundreds of seminars, speaking on a wide range of tax and estate planning topics important to families, businesses, private foundations, and public charities. Through his guidance, Ronnies individual, family, corporate, and charitable organization clients have benefited from his expertise by knowing that his counsel is based on sound principles, background, and experience. He has authored or edited over a dozen articles or chapters concerning various estate and family planning subjects that have been published in a variety of magazines, newspapers, books, and on the internet. Ronnie has written and edited over two dozen continuing professional education courses for accountants and attorneys on a wide range of federal income and wealth transfer tax topics, and has spoken throughout the nation on these issues.Ronnie is very active in his community both professionally and personally. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Dallas Estate Planning Council, a member of the American Counseling Association, the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, the Texas Mediation Association, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas, and serves as Treasurer of Denton County Collaborative Professionals, Inc.. He has volunteered his time by serving on the governing boards of numerous charitable organizations and is currently on the Advisory Council of Communities Foundation of Texas. Ronnie is an active participant in his church where he serves as an Ordained Deacon. He studied at Lamar University, the University of Texas, the University of North Texas, and Texas Womans University. He holds a BBA in Economics, a Masters in Professional Accounting, a MEd in Family Counseling, a PhD in Taxation, and a certificate in Conflict Resolution. In addition, he is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Credentialed Mediator by the TMCA. He holds licenses as a General Securities Representative (Series 7), a Registered Investment Advisor (Series 66) and Life Insurance Representative (Group 1).
