Length: 8 Hours
CPE Credits: 8

Approximately 50% of all marriages end in divorce. That means some of your clients, often where you have represented both husband and wife, will certainly go through this often highly emotional and difficult process. Our panel will explore the tax, accounting and other technical issues that arise when people separate and, ultimately, divorce. In addition, these experts will discuss and explain your client’s emotions and fears that accompany divorce so you are better able to understand and represent them. PLus, our panel will include family law practitioners who will explain legal considerations in the various forms of marital dissolution and how each impact the accountant’s role.

The marriage dissolution process can create subtle ethical traps for the unwary. Our experienced panel will help you anticipate, recognize and avoid these ethical pitfalls, most especially conflicts of interest. Malpractice traps abound in these situations, but also opportunities. Learn where your expertise can be useful in the litigation process as an expert witness, or as an advisor in valuation of marital property, and forensic tracing of assets.  The divorce process also can upset the best estate and financial planning, as well as day-to-day cash flow of the divorcing parties. The panel will show you how to re-structure for budgeting, as well as the financial, estate and tax planning issues inherent in divorce situations.
